Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs Minister Mansoor bin Rajab – who had been accused of financial, administrative and constitutional irregularities – was cleared by a parliamentary committee yesterday.
The minister appeared before parliament’s financial and economic affairs committee two weeks ago to face accusations of illegal business activities, as well as irregularities in the allocation of ministry cars to technical advisers and petrol allowances.
Nine MPs behind the questioning also blamed the minister for the refuse crisis in the Northern, Central and Southern Governorates, following the collapse and withdrawal of collection services by MBM-Alam Flora.
Committee member Dr Jassim Hussain said yesterday the majority of MPs on the committee found no action was necessary.
All MPs will vote today on whether or not to back the committee’s decision, but the matter will not be discussed in detail.
They will also vote on a similar decision by a separate committee, which has cleared Cabinet Affairs Minister Shaikh Ahmed bin Ateyatala Al Khalifa of covering up Bahrain’s population figures.
Mr Bin Rajab said yesterday the committee’s decision had vindicated him and that the allegations were based on incomplete documents.
Of course the ministers were cleared! : Mahmood’s Den
