The investment arm of the Bahraini government will this week be consulted by Formula One team McLaren as it weighs up whether to appeal a $100 million (BD37.8m) fine imposed after a hearing into claims it had access to secret information about its rival Ferrari.

A spokeswoman for McLaren yesterday confirmed to the GDN that team boss Ron Dennis would speak to officials at Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company – the team’s second biggest shareholder with 30 per cent – before Thursday, the deadline for any appeal.

Mumtalakat vice-president of equity investments Dr Huda Al Maskati yesterday said she was unsure if Mumtalakat planned to hold a meeting this week to discuss the fine and its implications.
