The Cabinet yesterday moved to protect workers from Bahrain’s scorching summer heat. The Premier has urged a ban on construction or other outdoor work from 12-4pm during July and August.”This stems from the government’s concern for labour safety and because of a remarkable rise in temperature and humidity in summer, which might endanger workers’ health,” a statement said.

The Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa tasked the Labour Minister to issue a ministerial decision in this regard.

In another development, ministers hailed Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa’s keenness to improve air travel and transport services in Bahrain by offering further facilities to international airlines, upgrading the services offered at Bahrain International Airport (BIA) and signing more co-operation agreements with other countries.

This came in the light of a memo forwarded by Shaikh Ali regarding BIA’s summer schedule which reveals steps taken to cope with the airport’s increasing activity.

Within the same framework, the Cabinet also approved and referred to parliament a draft law to endorse a protocol amending certain provisions of the air services agreement signed between Bahrain and Belgium. It also tasked the public amenities committee to find solutions to the problem of rising sea level which caused sea water to reach coastal buildings.
