Sixteen women from eight countries have joined the July Rose 2006 beauty pageant.

They include four Indians, two Pakistanis, two Filipinas, three Ethiopians, one South African, one Briton, two Americans and a Bahraini.

The contest, which marks its 14th anniversary this year, will be held on July 27 at the Baan Saeng Thai auditorium in Adliya.

Last year’s winner was Indian Nyiati Thakur.

Several of the July Rose winners in the past have gone on to become successful models.

They include Jackie Fernandez, a former model in Bahrain who is now representing Sri Lanka in this year’s Miss Universe beauty pageant in Los Angeles, California, US.

July Rose host and director Albert Gayo said that all of this year’s contestants would present four outfits, consisting of traditional, casual, evening gown and talent.

The latest summer collection will also be presented in a fashion show.

“This is the first time that we have more than five nationalities involved, which only shows the cosmopolitan camaraderie in Bahrain,” said Mr Gayo.

“Some of July Rose objectives are to enhance participants’ knowledge in beauty, modelling, hair and skin care, fashion sense, photo and TV shoot, and public speaking.”

Women who would still like to join the beauty pageant can register until Saturday.

Rehearsals and training will begin immediately thereafter.

Doors open at 8pm for the coronation night on July 27 and the show begins at 9pm.

Tickets are BD3.500, which includes a buffet meal.

They are available from the Baan Saeng Thai, Chukay Restaurant, Fastfood Restaurant, Nazih Trading and the Gulf Gate Hotel Beauty Centre.

For more information or registration, call the Baen Saeng Thai on 17715775 or Mr Gayo on 39277920.
