An organisation that aims to encourage political development is holding a training session for potential candidates in forthcoming national elections next week.

It will be the first programme organised by the Bahrain Political Development Institute.

Topics will include the constitution, political participation, the political system in Bahrain and political rights.

The 13-day workshop will start on Saturday at the Bahrain Engineers Society, Juffair, and is being held in co-ordination with Bahrain University.

Registration has already started and those wishing to participate must register before the end of Wednesday by faxing their details to 17664991.

It is part of a series of initiatives designed to help inform the public and encourage human rights.

“There are three types of opinions – the dominating opinion, the intellectual opinion and the guided opinion,” said institute board of trustees president Dr Lulwa Al Awadhi.

“The dominating opinion includes leaders, politicians and intellectuals; the intellectual opinion includes people from the dominating opinion and the guided opinion, while the guided opinion includes the majority of people who believe rumours.

“The number of people in this last category is increasing.”

She was speaking at a Press conference to announce the programme at the Gulf Hotel yesterday.

Present were board of trustees Yousif Isa Al Hashimi, Dr Mohammed Kadhim and Dr Bahiya Jawad.

Dr Jawad said the institute’s objective was to allow people to form opinions through programmes provided.

The institute’s board of trustees has chosen Dr Abdulla Al Asha’ar as the institute’s president. The board of trustees includes eight members: Dr Jawad, Dr Abdulla Hassan Madan, Hamad Khaili Al Muhanadi, Taher Mustafa Hekmat, Fareed Ghazi Jassim, Dr Kadhim, Mohammed Hadi Al Halwachi and Mr Al Hashimi.
