A green theme takes root…
Desert plants will be the highlight of next year’s Bahrain International Garden Show (BIGS), Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa announced yesterday.
The wife of His Majesty King Hamad and chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Women said the slogan for the event would also promote the importance of conserving water.
Shaikha Sabeeka said the slogan aimed at spreading environmental and agricultural awareness as well as educating citizens on the importance of preserving national resources.
She was speaking at a reception she hosted at Al Rawdha Palace to mark the end of this year’s BIGS and thank sponsors for their support.
An open discussion was also held between Shaikha Sabeeka and the guests regarding ideas for next year’s show.
She said that the next event would be directed to educate children on the importance of preserving nature.
“God has given us many resources that we have to be devoted to preserving them by planting different types of plants and trees,” said Shaikh Sabeeka.
“We hope to bring back Bahrain’s greenery in the future the way it used to be.”
She said modern life was beginning to affect the country’s land and people should work together to plant more trees and plants.
“Let us think of the future and work on it to make Bahrain a greener country,” said Shaikha Sabeeka.
She praised the success of this year’s event, which she said was visited by many people from Bahrain and abroad.
Shaikha Sabeeka also issued directives to the relevant government organisations to allocate town squares to further increase green areas in the country. Awards were presented by Shaikha Sabeeka to BIGS sponsors and supporters.
