‘Sex’ racket
Man lands in jail for defrauding GCC nationals by promising them women in a ‘safe’ house
The Appeals Court yesterday upheld the Lower Court’s verdict sentencing a Bahraini to six months in jail for encouraging prostitution.
According to the information presented by the Public Prosecutor, the convict usually approached GCC nationals, promising them women and guided them to a ‘safe’ house.
He charged them BD100 in advance before leading them to the place, telling the ‘clients’ that he would wait outside the house to take them back.
But as soon as his clients would get out of the car and reach the main door of the house, the man would drive away.
And when the GCC nationals would knock at the door, the owner would come out and inform them that there were no such women.
It happened so frequently that the houseowner filed a complaint with the police.
The police swung into action and kept a vigil on the house.
A few days later the police saw a Bahraini arriving at the house with a few GCC nationals.
The police arrested the group.
During interrogation the GCC nationals said that the man had approached and asked them if they were interested in women.
When they replied in affirmative, the man took BD100 before leading them to the house, they claimed.
Judge Ibrahim Al Zayed and Associate Judges Yasser Al Bohairi and Sami Mahmoud upheld the Lower Court’s verdict and the Bahraini was escorted to jail.
Imprisonment upheld
The Appeals Court yesterday upheld the Lower Court’s three-month sentence handed to a Bahraini for issuing a cheque without the required balance in his account.
Judge Ibrahim Al Zayed and associate judges Yasser Al Bohairi and Sami Mahmoud, however, gave the convict a chance by staying the execution of the verdict.
According to the details presented by the Public Prosecutor, the convict had issued a BD150 cheque to a man. When the latter went to the bank, he was informed that the account holder did not have adequate balance.
The man filed a complaint with the police. The Public Prosecutor referred the case to the Lower Court which pronounced the jail term.
The convict appealed. During cross-examination in court he petitioned for grace period until April-end to pay the amount.
When the judge asked him why he wanted so much time to pay BD150, the convict said he expected to receive a certain amount which would mature by April-end. The judge granted him the grace period and stayed the execution of the jail term until then.
